What other soviet port could they have used then? Also One being the most direct, quickest and easiest?, you have to remember the barents sea and most northerly parts of baltic can be ice locked for half of the year and the rest can still be to dangerous to navigate through ice flow, especially large convoys, ever heard of titanic!!!...

Glaring irony alot of it (MIGHT) have came from poland and other parts of baltic states, Love to know why the soviets got two bars to the btitish one, after all its british payment for materials, and they was no help from them in putting the salvage together, the only thing they done was stick two idiots on board to monitor how much was brought up and so none could be put on somebody else's pile, or so nobody could say it was unsuccessful, if i was in british goverment i would have told them to jog on!, or give me all the tanks, planes and supplies back that was in the package, or send the weight in raw steel ....there is a documentary showing the recovery of the gold...

@matthewl67 exactly cant see soviets sending money first can you, or britain, wouldnt surprise me if the material hadnt came in with the convoy that went out on the outbound! when it was attacked...if so it a good will jesture on the soviets, but if not they shouldnt be entitled to any unless they had to compensate after, one of them things us mere mortals will never ever find out...

@randomlyentertaining8287 how many shermans or aircraft from usa have you seen the soviets using during ww2?? They prefered churchills which suited brits fine as they kept all shermans, remember spare parts still had to get there!! with british machinery the supply lines was halved, the only aircraft they liked was the air cobra which was deemed obsolete early on in the war so very limited and many of these was ex RAF..

@jimmyhaley727 and why should they, if convoy had already left from britain its already been paid for, and anyhow what makes you think it was rammed with merican materials!!, might have been filled with churchill and velentines..brits could say the same about all those gold and jewel laden HRN vessels sunk in and around Caribbean but they dont do they?..
