  1.  @laurencejones8977  I was watching Ron Kovic , the expression he had was Heart felt and Universal , most Vets are definitely a Phoenix, it takes a lot of effort to rise above the pain . It's the fourth and all these fireworks remind me of Battle .

  2.  @johnnycrash3270  Watched a Doc on 2 female Journalists who were killed in Vietnam . Dicky Chappelle was one , they brought the War home so the sacrifices could be appreciated by all .

  5. ​ @human1513 You forgot about the Draft , not everybody wanted to pass in that place and a lot of GIs thought the sacrifices weren't worth the rewards , good or bad we became a lot wiser overnight.

  11. You have to die to be a Hero , the living are just doing their Jobs and serving their fellow Americans ( I hope ).

  12. True Americans who went there still wonder why , where's the meaning ? A War designed to go on forever and Garner Profits for War Profiteering , by .gov Contractors . Lost too many friends and Family Members . Letters by grieving Families , to President Ford , to end funding for the War finally ended it .

  13. Consciencious Objectors who were drafted had a different moral perspective , Patriotism aside for the moment .

McNamara thought Computers , and Think Tanks from Harvard , would win the War , but like Rumsfeld he didn't seem to give the Grunts much credit but there're the ones who win the Battles , not ground sensors or even Agent Orange , every means of destruction , more Ordnance than WWII , our determination wasn't enough and being degraded by politicians while their kids got draft deferments . Rich Man's War , poor Mans fight. I'll always think that the War was designed to go on forever to deliver DOD contracts and reap big Dividends for Investors , but at what Cost , and the " Domino Theory "? Why would we go 13,000 miles away to fight them when Cuba was only 90 miles away. Didn't seem to be consistent , or make sense.

  15. Vietnam wasn't about holding Real Estate, our leaders decided " Body counts" held sway over any semblance of Victory , or establishing an independent South Vietnam . Early on it was the the " Domino Theory" , the American People became less convinced as the War dragged on . Hamburger Hill 937 , was driving the NVA back across the River into Laos, we took areas to try to degrade enemy strength and and their will to keep fighting. Welcome to Westminster CA and the Gulf Coast S. Vietnamese Refugees , I guess winning wasn't to be , Thieu , Nixon and Kissenger were on different pages .

  16. I remember in 1965 , especially with the Draft , the horror stories trickled home , but the homeland was a long way from the War if one wasn't directly involved .

  17.  @carolembley4873  General MacArthur , in his deathbed , told LBJ that another Land War in Asia would be a " Quagmire" , LBJ was too busy making money on the War to listen. Our real enemies are the same Axis we're fighting today, Vietnam was another Proxy War that we learned few lessons from and was a precursor of things to come .
