Why? Because they were engaging in trades of a volatile stock, so they increased the collateral required by the buying party... and the discount brokerage firm, Robinhood, couldn’t afford to play the game anymore. The big boy brokerage firms never had issues.

@CMDRZero01 ... but if it was simply robinhood’s own liquidity issues with the T+2 holding period, based on the adjusted margin requirements set by the DTC, is it fair for the SEC to halt trading on a security? Especially when you factor in Robinhood is a small fish in a big pond. Many other large brokerage firms did not have liquidity issues meeting the DTC margin requirements on GME, thus they did not limit buying. If you use a small bank, you might not get the same benefits as a larger bank. Brokerage firms are no different.

Price fixing? Insider trading? That’s hilarious. I don’t think you know what either of those things actually are. They are just terms you’ve heard in a negative way in regards to finance. So now you’re attempting to use them yourself.

Yup! I can’t wait to “tax the rich”. And as I basic retail investor with a tiny account, I can’t wait to carry the bulk of the tax load. It’s what the middle class does best.

@CMDRZero01 ... I agree, if there were phone calls directly talking about how to stop the GME run up. Then that’s a huge problem. But without evidence, it’s pure speculation at this point. And to play devil’s advocate. Let’s pretend Robinhood didn’t shut down the buying of GME. What prevents RH from burning through all of its liquidity, attempting to pay the margin required by the DTC for its GME shares? And this margin requirement is held for T+2. If RH ran out of money due to GME. The brokerage firm would have to halt buying of every stock. And buying requires collateral, selling does not. This is generally true for all transactions in life. There for, there is no need to restrict the selling. Also, imagine watching GME plummet and not being able to sell. That would be a huge problem.
