@EricLeafericson The fact you reference the Jan. 6th incident as a “frat rager” shows just how much of a violent uprising against an authority or government it was. In contrast, BLM protest over the summer resulted in six square blocks of a major metropolitan city’s Capitol Hill being barricaded off, declaring autonomy, with multiple shootings. Including the fatal shooting of an unarmed black teen. By definition, an insurrection is a violent uprising against an authority or government. If the “frat rager” was an insurrection. Then certainly the CHAZ and other events, across the nation during the summer, would also be an insurrection.

Local, State, and Federal levels of government all meet the criteria for “authority or government” within the definition of insurrection. According to the definition, there is not a big difference. In fact, they are the same. Now you play the “what if” game when it comes to BLM and Jan. 6th. Without realizing every media outlet is calling the Trump supporters at the Capitol terrorist and one unarmed Trump supporter was shot dead.

However, if you would like to base the definition on this factor... You are pretending like Jan. 6th was a game of king of the hill and, the power of the federal government rest solely inside one building. Meanwhile, our county survived through the entire city of D.C. being burned in 1812. So I will argue that the events throughout the summer, where cities across the country experienced tension, civil unrest, arson, riots, and killings, destabilized this country more than two hundred individuals did in three hours during one afternoon. And I see that instead of comparing Jan. 6th to a “frat rager”, you are now comparing it to a day in which nearly three thousand people died. Wow, that is quite a shift in the narrative.

@EricLeafericson ... Yes, I have continued with “But insurrection” because that is the argument I have presented. Specifically in regards to Jan. 6th vs. BLM in the summer. And some how “red states” and covid has been brought in to the discussion. Which is in no way relevant to the definition and initial argument presented in regards to insurrection. But if the deciding factor is the “nobility” of the cause. Not the definition of the word itself. You have now transitioned the argument from an objective definition to a subjective definition of the word insurrection. And my argument is not about the subjective “nobility” of various incidents.

@EricLeafericson ... No. I do not care about the “nobility” of the cause when the law is broken. When people are shot and killed. When police precincts are burned. When courthouses are vandalized. When small businesses, struggling from covid, are extorted. There is no line in the constitution, or first amendment, in regards to protesting. Protesting, is a combination of various rights combined. That are granted by the first amendment. Including, the “right to peaceably assemble”.

@EricLeafericson Thank you for providing the information that 20 more people died as a result of the BLM insurrection than the Jan 6th MAGA insurrection. Given that an insurrection is a violent uprising against an authority or government. And 25 people dying in an uprising against an authority or government classifies as violent. As for Covid, once again, it’s widely off topic from the original debate comparing the events of Jan. 6th to the BLM events of the summer. However, I would argue that protesting by the hundreds or thousands in cities across the country, during a pandemic, while the CDC recommended avoiding large groups, is beyond ignorant regardless of your cause and it’s nobility. The CDC recommends wearing a mask and social distancing. Wearing a mask while in a large group, doesn’t exclude you from being ignorant As for the election, irregularities and impropriety absolutely occurred, just as they always have. However, we will never know the full extent. Republicans called for audits in numerous states. An audit, in contrast to a recount, observes and determines the legality of the ballots cast. Due to the Democrats lack of confidence in their victory, they did not support the republican push for these audits. Which is not unexpected, the winning party of an election does not have a vested interest in ensuring the integrity of an election, that just elected them the winner. The result is democrats talking about 2020, the same way Trump talked about 2016. “The election was perfect, the best”. And they’re both full of shit.
