Yeah... Obama was also open to it in 2008. Then lied once in office, saying it required congressional help. This is a lie given the fact, the president has the authority, via directing the attorney general, to remove a substance from the controlled substance act. As stated in 21 U.S.C. 811(a).

@L98fiero ... please name one state that regularly imprisons “pot smokers”. Many states have decriminalized simple possession. The states that have not, have relatively minor punishments for simple possession. Even the harshest of punishments for simple possession would only result in an 11-29 sentence in a county jail, not a for profit prison. But keep parroting those false narratives you’ve heard your friends say, about a subject you clearly don’t understand or research.

@L98fiero ... federal drug laws are enforced on federal property. The first paragraph you wrote is citing federal laws. Which would not come into play, for your common simple possession arrest. 99% of those arrest will result in city or state charges, not federal. The laws will vary in each state. Your second paragraph just reiterated exactly what I stated. You listed some minimum and maximum sentences, which exist at the state level in many places. All of the minimum sentences you listed would be carried out in a country jail, as I stated. The vast majority of sentences, of current convictions, will be near the minimum not the maximum. As I stated, an everyday smoker, at most will only experience 11-29 in county jail (11 months, 29 days). Anything below a 1 year sentence, will be carried out in county jails, not for profit prisons. Do people serve time for simple possession? Yes. Do they serve time in for profit prisons? No. Please stop parroting this BS. P.s. I smoke regularly, I’ve been arrested for simple possession, in a state that’s no where close to decriminalized. And I’d love to see federal (not state) cannabis laws abolished. But I’m not willing to accomplish this by using a false narrative.
