Everything you said about "near-expiration" stores goes 10X for the USA. They're in smaller towns, they're very popular and have been for decades, the foods are cheaper because they're near expiration, etc. Frankly they're great.

All of these things (except for the fake lamb roll, hopefully) are done in the US. Hot dogs are made of turkey and chicken and trimmings. Flavorings are made of instant stuff just like as described here. Tons of stuff like this is done in the US and it was worse before the book "The Jungle" which is a great read, was published and the US food and drug laws made.

I think the difference in domestic and export (to the US) soy sauce is this: In the US, soy sauce is not a mainstream food. The people who use it tend to be more health-conscious and will literally count the number of ingredients on a label. There are food "experts" in the US who will advise to actually count the number of ingredients in foods and not buy any with more than 3, or 5, etc. So US soy sauce buyers are label-readers and ingredient-counters. However, the preservatives are put in the domestic product for a reason - it costs the manufacturer money to put them in, and they do so because it makes a better product. More shelf-stable, less likely to degrade, etc. I'm no gonna look at lamb roll the same way again though lol.

This is certainly going on in the US. I listen to National Public Radio and their latest pledge drive didn't go well. They didn't make their minimum and are extending their asking for money period. It feels like it's 2008 again. Everyone's supposed to go out and spend money in restaurants but cooking at home is so much cheaper and better, so I'm doing that and tons of others are all. And the car ads! I'm really not doing my part by not owning a car. To live in the US is to get bombarded by ads for cars, geez half the price of a car must be the advertising cost. So, China has Westernized and has decided to be joined at the hip with the Western economy, they're going to have a hard time too.

There are large - geographically, not population-wise - parts of the US where earning $100 a month is doing pretty well. I've lived in one of these areas. They make China look really good. Victory and glory to the CCP.

@halo129830 The administration would not be doing this. The dept. of the treasury, maybe. Or maybe some right-wing nutter on AM radio imagined it and you swallowed every word.

The economy turns bad, Lo and behold the leaders tell them this or that foreign group is causing it to be bad. Well, there are not a lot of foreigners in China but apparently some foreign cars. This reminds me of how Japanese cars were vandalized in the US in the 1980s when Japanese import cars took a lot of the market from American cars (mainly because American cars were gas-guzzling clunkers).

All if this stuff is 10X worse in the USA. Please, China, do not become like the USA.

Kim Chee has entered the chat. Wait, what am I saying, you could tell it was coming a block away...

I wonder how many Long March era old folks are passing away, leaving their gold fillings?
1
Don't come to the USA then.

I'm sorry but the Chinese are too G.D. smart to throw their fate in with the orcs. They need to withdraw from Orcistan and cozy up to the West.
1
@Natepwnsu Contrary to popular belief, when you die you can't take your gold with you, so there might be a steady amount of old folks leaving their jewelry, coins, taels, tooth fillings, etc.

Wrong. American Jesus hates the poor and anyone non-white, and preaches hyper-individualism. His motto: "fuck others, for thous hast thine".

All of these problems and more were huge in the US, Europe, England, etc. It's why we brought in food regulations. Read a little history!
1
@牧場里尼 Exactly! Mark Twain wrote about fake olive oil something like 150 years ago. US Presidents have gotten into office due to their campaigning in their earlier careers for food regulations. Read some history! There is nothing special about China or Chinese people in this aspect. People, any and all people, will find ways to cheat the system and eventually there have to be regulations.

@shirakani Not give, but find you a smaller, cheaper one you can afford.

China's not been Communist since Mao died. China needs to return to socialism.

Welcome to capitalism.

Sodium glutamate and sodium benzoate are not harmful.

This is what happened in the US in 2008-2010. We called it "jingle mail" when you'd mail in your house key to the bank and just walk away.

@sullivan912 China's not been Communist since Mao died.

This is why NK has been selling some of their slaves (so-called citizens) to Putin to be cannon fodder.

When I was a kid the big thing was US Savings Bonds. You could buy them at your bank or at the post office.
1
Capitalism SUX that's why. You've got to save-save-save your money and try to develop a social economy, help each other, mutual favors, if you can grow a garden, keep some chickens or pigeons, if you can afford a car don't get one, ride a bike and save your money! The old Communists know this!

Any system with highly concentrated power, call it communism or fascism, they both lead to ... uhh ... shit like this.
