All of these things (except for the fake lamb roll, hopefully) are done in the US. Hot dogs are made of turkey and chicken and trimmings. Flavorings are made of instant stuff just like as described here. Tons of stuff like this is done in the US and it was worse before the book "The Jungle" which is a great read, was published and the US food and drug laws made.

I think the difference in domestic and export (to the US) soy sauce is this: In the US, soy sauce is not a mainstream food. The people who use it tend to be more health-conscious and will literally count the number of ingredients on a label. There are food "experts" in the US who will advise to actually count the number of ingredients in foods and not buy any with more than 3, or 5, etc. So US soy sauce buyers are label-readers and ingredient-counters. However, the preservatives are put in the domestic product for a reason - it costs the manufacturer money to put them in, and they do so because it makes a better product. More shelf-stable, less likely to degrade, etc. I'm no gonna look at lamb roll the same way again though lol.
