I had a friend here in Silicon Valley who lost electrical power because the building had a fire a couple units over and the landlord didn't want to fix it and neither did the tenants ... or something ... Anyway, he ran his business on a small Honda generator, he just had to run a couple of computers, the lights, and maybe a radio. It worked fine and it was cheaper than the electric company. A much larger part of Silicon Valley runs this way then people think. I know places here with dirt floors. Walking distance to Adobe HQ and ... dirt floors. I could go on and on ... In any case, don't pick on S. Africa and think places like the US are ideal.

  2. Wait a minute .... I experienced periods of no electricity as a kid and the worst thing was we ended up cooking our dinners on a campfire on the lawn. No studded leather anything.
