As a kid in Hawaii I swam and surfed and fished where there were tons of needlefish and I never saw one jump out of the water, and they are very passive underwater. I liked to see them - they're so long and skinny!

Yep the book Charlotte's Web is a good intro to this. The family's a farming family, they bought a piglet in the spring, the "runt" so it was cheaper, and the pig (Wilbur) got the family's leftover food each day along with general animal feed. This is what people would often do. You got a piglet and thus had an animal to feed your food scraps to, the pig would grow through the year, then around Christmas or so, you'd slaughter the pig and have had your year's worth of food scraps turned into delicious pork. Of course this didn't happen in Charlotte's Web because it was a story for Boomers and Boomers are scared by reality.

This is why Jewish people would have gefilte fish, the name means filled or stuffed fish but really it's fish terrine, a sort of fish loaf. Traditionally they'd save the skin and put it back in to look like a whole fish hence the name gefilte or filled/stuffed. But the main thing is, the person cooking it takes care of the bones, so the people enjoying their nice Friday dinner after a week of work don't have to worry about it. A lot of fish have lots of little bones or have soft flesh, and in Asian cuisines are used to make fish cakes because of this. So there are tasty ways to deal with this.

And traditionally in Japan, salmon was not eaten raw. Traditionally it's eaten at breakfast and cooked very well.

There are tons of cane toads for a while in Hawaii too - we call them "Bufos" - anyway some disease or something came through and cut the numbers way down. And, the poison is on their skin, especially around their neck. No reason their legs would be poisonous.

If you've been across on a ship you know the ocean is huge. Also, did you see glowing stuff in the water? I did, one night, it was pretty cool. Glowing blue and green, and the occasional red. I love the ocean.

Wolves will have one litter of 3-5 cubs a year, and it will often be just the "alpha" female of the pack. Pigs, we're talking 2 litters a year of 8-12 or more, plus in a herd the boar's got a few sows and they're all having litters.

Crabs just be crabbin'. One place we used to swim when I was a kid in Hawaii, if you just sat in the shallows, within a few minutes you'd feel a crab or two checking you out. They eat Portuguese man-o-wars, all kinds of shit on the beach. They're not really conscious of what they do, they're just crabs.
