  1. I feel this so much, about where I grew up. Thought people were ignorant and dumb and old-fashioned and looked down on them for eating foods that aren't mainstream American, and our funky local comedians and our funky non-mainstream music ... all of it. In fact for years I'd never tell anyone where I grew up. Now, well, I take it all back. It's one of the least American places in America and I can't wait to retire there.

  4. Hahaha this is some of my ancestors in the "Golden Horde" and indeed I am a nice golden-brown color. 2000s will be the Asian Century.

  6. Years ago I read the Thor Heyerdahl theories about why the Easter Island statues look like N. European "white" people but when you think about it, maybe they made them look like that because if you're standing in front, looking up at the face, it will look like a regular Polynesian face. And maybe it's easier to carve a bigger statue if you stretch the face out. And maybe they just looked cooler that way. Imagine their surprise when they get visited by people who actually look like that! (I now think Heyerdahl's theories are racist and not scientific at all.)
