  1. That driving vs. walking example in NYC, well, I did the same sort of experiment with a friend in suburban-sprawl San Jose, California. We went from Lawrence and Central Expressway to Lawrence and El Camino Real, she was on a bike and I was in a car. By the time I got there she'd been waiting 15 minutes or so. And she's far from a fast bike rider.
