  1. It's mostly BS propaganda. Stalin didn't start purges in 1937 and could easily be a victim himself. He tried hard to pressure Ezov into resignation to stop the wave of purges. After that more than a million were released and their "criminal" records were erased. Perpetrators from NKVD that fabricated prosecution documents were brought to justice in public trials and there were reports in the papers about these trials. It's just one episode to show that it's propaganda and not an unbiased history.
