Different units even when threatened with lengthy sentences or summary executions for retreating, retreat anyway without saying a word to their neighbor units thus sealing these neighbor units fate. Western artillery is increasingly failing (NYT "Artillery Is Breaking in Ukraine. It’s Becoming a Problem for the Pentagon."), shell shortage is just catastrophic (The Telegraph "How the West lost the artillery shell race and what it means for Ukraine"). According to BBC Russians now have advantage in artillery 1:10 (previously it was 1:6 according to WaPo). Russians use more than 100 precision glide bombs every single day and Ukrainian army has zero defense against them. This catastrophic disparity in firepower is exacerbated by an incompetent at best (lunatic is a better word here) Ukrainian command (here is just an example of this astounding ongoing lunacy: NYT article "Ukrainian Marines on ‘Suicide Mission’ in Crossing the Dnipro River"). No wonder that Zelenskyy is running out of cannon fodder.

@justmynickname You still don't get it. It's a war of attrition. It's not about capturing Kiev, Bakhmut, Odessa or Avdiivka. It's not about gaining more territory. It's solely about decimating Ukrainian army. “The main object of operations should not be the territory, but the army of the enemy” Helmuth von Moltke Sr. This war showed once more that old Moltke was right. According to BBC (Mediazona) total Russian losses by now are 38 000 KIA ( obituaries, social media records, new graves). Yeah, it's really staggering 38 000 Russian KIA and 500 000 Ukrainian KIA. The war of attrition is effectively lost by Ukraine. Anybody can go and see for himself. It's obvious that Zelenskyy also lied about a real mobilization potential and there are no next 500 000 to kidnap off the streets, gyms and public transport. NYT wrote about these mass kidnappings that were happening only in Zelenskyy Ukraine and Hitler's Germany in 1945 in an article ‘People Snatchers’.

@justmynickname 1. Russians never said anything about 3 days. These are just your fantasies. 2. The same with Russian casualties. I gave you BBC and western funded Mediazona number based on a research with a verifiable methodology. 3. Zelenskyy himself (he is such a big mouth) said at his end-of-the-year press-conference that his generals demanded from him forced conscription of next 500 000.
