Ethnic Chinese and their companies have been in Vietnam for decades upon decades and economically dominate in Vietnam And the Vietnamese economy is dependent on the Chinese Economy Vietnamese of Chinese descent? 👇 Prior to 1975, entrepreneurial savvy Chinese had literally taken over Vietnam's entire economy and have been prospering disproportionately as a result of the country's post-1988 economic liberalization reforms.[195][191] The Chinese have maintained a considerable presence in Vietnam's economy having been an affluent market-dominant minority for centuries, historically controlling the country's most lucrative commercial, trade, and industrial sectors.[198] The economic power of the Hoa is far greater than that of their proportion would suggest relative to their small population size in addition to the Chinese community being a socioeconomically successful ethnic minority for hundreds of years than the indigenous host Kinh majority population. I remember when I first started to research China in the 1980s What alarmed me wasn’t China … but the economic dominance it has on SEAsia Free trade/Globalization/economic liberalization etc etc Like giving a kid keys to a candy store That’s when I started to warn about the rise of China 👇 Amid the shifting dynamics of changing regimes in recent centuries, Chinese migrants spread across the region to escape poverty or seek opportunity – becoming the 50 million “huaren” or “overseas Chinese,” those who are of Chinese ethnic descent but do not hold Chinese citizenship. Concentrated especially in Southeast Asia, where they account for more than three-quarters of the $369 billion in wealth held by Southeast Asian billionaires, their lives have become closely interlinked with the Chinese state and their economic power has made them a key target of Chinese Communist Power (CCP) soft power. However, with a complex history and an identity of their own, such ties are not as obvious as they may seem. The Diplomat

@haniahannslew4108 The ethnic Chinese (Hoa) who originally went over to Vietnam, over the centuries were often the poorer Chinese looking for a better life The mistake the Vietnam made was to treat these Hoa, differently and try to handicap them or even worse gen o cide them Now the new/modern Chinese immigrants/nationals who go to Vietnam these days, have better education, more money, more contacts better supply chains back home And the backing of the Chinese Government Unlike the Hoa who could have been a bridge and protected Vietnam. But these days, the Hoa themselves are being pushed out by the new Chinese immigrants/nationals who have less or no loyalty to Vietnam at all

@laichuonkui69 And when controlling for the fact that Chinese manufacturing wages were significantly lower than U.S. wages, in 2021, China had 12 times the rate of robot use in manufacturing than did the United States. The reason for this was not market forces, but rather government policy.Mar 11, 2024 ITIF
