  2. Yes the Chinese are more interested in protecting shipping/trade routes. And to send ships and planes to ferry its Chinese nationals working/doing business in a country that experiences a sudden internal turmoil. They would be patient and wait for those internal issues to stabilize or wait for the next friendly Government to China Because war does not make them money With that said, in event of a war one can easily see the Chinese strategy would be to replace their assets faster than an enemy combatant can replace theirs.
