Trump played this debate smart. He stuck to his usual agenda of exaggeration and fear for his usual talking points, but he also wanted people to worry about the current president and he did just that. He wanted Biden talking more to show his age, his dementia, his struggles to form thoughts when there's no teleprompter or script to read from, his inability to think on his feet, and his temper that he tried really hard to control but you could see it. There were times where it seemed Biden wanted to come over and punch trump and that's what Trump wanted people to see. Also, the fact this debate happened with no live audience is really telling.
