I remember when I was a British Diplomat being amazed at the wishful thinking and night is days lies my office seem to provide and in many cases believe on a daily basis. I was based in the Middle East during the so called Arab Spring.’ I asked a senior Diplomat surely he didn’t believe the rubbish they were putting out and he explained diplomacy was about saying what you want to happen rather than what is happening and to find a narrative that backs up what was were being spun by the Government . We have seen this with Ukraine where whatever one is told by the BBC or the FCDO a good start point is to believe the opposite and work it out from there. Quite sad really considering the amount of tax payers money these departments squander. I’m glad I’m out of it now, everyday spent with the Office felt like I was gargling with Anusol. Incredible that now I trust Lavrov and Russia Today for the truth more than our clowns.
