I recently worked in Gaza for a few years. TBH it wasn’t much of a prison at all. Most of the population is funded by the UN (in other words from us) from cradle until the grave. They can leave quite easily if not uncomfortably, through many exit points, mainly tunnels into Egypt. Although recently Israel (not Egypt who control the Southern Border) offered 20,000 of them work permits to work in Israel, (this was part of the reason Hamas kicked off) . If you’re a young male then life is quite fun, if you’re female, or God forbid gay, or anything else that doesn’t gel with the Hamas narrative, then Lord help you. One of my responsibilities was to work with local artists, and these chaps (for there was no woman in their group of course) had travelled freely (free being the operative word) all over the World. The most stark thing I noted was their complete lack of any worries or responsibilities , everything is funded, and the more kids they have the more money they scam, basically if you had less then eight kids you were a ‘virgin.’ As the men enjoyed smoking shisha pipes and glugging coffee in neat little cafe’s, most of the prematurely haggard baby machines they called women, had quite a different reality. When I think of the struggles my fathers working class community had to endure then the Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza were having a laugh and I told them so. Israel has bent over backwards to meet their insane demands and only received rockets in return.

@TonyDoubleTrouble Yes it has the longest life expectancy for any working class Arabs in the whole Middle East and the lowest infant mortality rate. Strange statistics for a supposed refugee camp. when I lived there I could never figure out how so many BMWs and Mercedes were driving about given no one seemed to have a real job beyond working for the Un or the plethora of NGOs or selling fruit and kebabs, But I also wonder the same about certain communities in Yorkshire. Maybe I’m missing something.

@siewheilou399 You really have no clue at all. I advise once the crisis is over you go and visit, Smuggle in food indeed! Where do you get this nonsense from? Gaza has an obesity problem, not a starvation problem. Please go.

@siewheilou399 ? There is plenty of fruit and veg markets in Gaza. What was surprising though was before 2005 Gaza exported vegetables and flowers to most of the Middle East. That quickly died off when the Israelis left. Which is a shame as it’s a good business and could have employed many weened the inhabitants of being dependent on UN and foreign aid. Also there are beautiful beaches that go on for miles, but you wont find anyone on them sipping a beer in their swim suites, not quite done culturally really. 70% of Gaza is on ‘benefits’ from cradle until the grave, which includes medical and education, if they can claim refugee status. Nice life if you can get it eh? I wasn’t, I had to work for a living. As I say instead of typing weird stuff, go.

@siewheilou399 No. I called it uncomfortable. I’ve done it a few times. Have you? Read my comments properly and understand them if you feel you want to comment back. i accept English might not be your first language, nevertheless read, digest and learn from someone who’s lived there.
