@mongmanification In principle you are right. But practically speaking you are not. Firstly their empire was more local and smaller than Britain’s. This meant they earned way less wealth and killed fewer people. Secondly, they didn’t cause anywhere near as much damage to nations around the world as Britain did (including using afghanistan as a buffer state to Russia, changing afghan kings and launching wars on whims). When it comes to destructive empires, Britain tops the charts.

One obvious difference is that Ukraine has been invaded by a foreign state. Therefore all men of fighting age will fight just like in Afghanistan in ‘79. However Afghanistan has now fallen in to internal strife as a direct consequence of western intervention. When it’s internal strife, you don’t always know who the enemy is and sides are changed often. You may be reported to the Taliban due to a grudge with someone. It’s way more complex than Ukraine in that regard. Any man is potentially a target. Afghanistan is also infiltrated by ISIS too and this has further destabilised the country. Also, Ukrainians are given much safer passage to the west. I don’t know many women or children that could make that perilous journey from Afghanistan. When you think about it, it’s incredibly obvious why the women and children don’t come and why only a young, fit man could. If anything, the west has more more moral obligation to Afghanistan than it does to Ukraine. The Ukrainians are not in their position due to the west, the Afghans are. I also think the host is right, as many have pointed out before - there’s more sympathy for those that are more like you.

@eddiecalderone then I must have imagined the British involvement in the 2001 invasion, years of war and their subsequent recent withdrawal where the local animals were heroically rescued. Nothing suggests respect like prioritising the local strays over the humans.

@eddiecalderone Did I say every single afghan?

@mongmanification it’s quite simple really, 100 million dead as a direct and indirect consequence of the British in India alone versus the 30-40 million killed by the mongols.

I’m curious if you can tell the difference between an invasion and internal destabilisation?

@eddiecalderone I didn’t say you were. But you do bear responsibility for the places you attacked, E.g. Afghanistan

@mongmanification nope. Not even close.

@kingofracism At least you’re honest. The majority of Brits clearly have the same view as you, but lack the moral fibre to be as honest as you. Their denials only make it much worse. I guess they are only fooling themselves and that is the worst kind of hypocrisy. It also explains why UK ‘call of duty’ warriors who go over there and break a tonne of laws doing so, are hardly prosecuted.
