Considering the ability to manage your own time is ( to me ) the most valuable commodity out there then yeah, generating a passive income would be great to be honest.

An unelected billionaire seemingly looking after the interests of the common people. Yeah... right.

A lot of buy to let landlords ( in the UK ) are in trouble right now with the increase of interest rates, it's being passed on to their tenants who can't fund the increase. I know people who are trying to offload their buy to let properties with not much success.

@christinavuyk2026 How is educating schoolchildren on finance perpetuating the problem?

I'd love to know what happened in London with property prices, for me it started in the 90's, I watched it happen, but I've never been able to work out why, you could be right though, was it the Estate agents? There's a great chapter at the end of Morgan Housel's book "The Psychology of Money" that outlines what has happened in the US since the end of WW2 but I'd love to know what happened in the UK from the 90's.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Absolutely, I'm getting on a bit and have just really started looking at investing and realising it's something I should have done years ago. Even a few grand compounding in a 4-5% savings account for a few decades could make a huge difference. Saying that, it's a lot easier now that we have apps and access to the markets. They really should teach this in schools.

@elizabethteixeira2089 Who's talking about high risk investments here, putting regular money into a 4-5% savings account compounding over a few decades will make you money. Start at 16, adding bits and pieces and leaving it until you 50 and you'll be doing very nicely. We should be teaching this.

@paulwhalley6789 The buy to let market had been contracting for a couple of years now, especially in London. Rents have been skyrocketing here . I personally know buy to let owners up the creek who haven't been able to offload their properties and their tenants can't make the rent. What data exactly are you looking at here?
