  1. You hit the nail on the head Simon with basically saying that the countrys ambitions are ring fenced to the length of the election cycle. Its destroyed any medium to long term thinking within the government.

  2. The same we are told regarding the "professional" class. "We need more doctors and nurses and engineers and surgeons" Why dont they take a serious look at the educational standards for entry into these professions and train our own people?? If I am forced to accept a doctor from Nigeria I dont think it's a stretch to imagine he has not been trained to "UK standard". So why hire him over training our own people albeit at a slightly lower educational standard? I'm a medical professional requiring a master degree to practice at my level. I could train virtually anyone with half a brain to do this job in a few months.

  3. The problem comes down to any sort of common sense mid term thinking. 2 things need doing, bring back proper apprenticeships within the "professional" class. Lower the entry standard but keep the training the same. Sure more may well wash out but that's the way it was in days gone also. The constant push in this country to artificially "gate" job qualification for UK people behind high entry standards, but then accept people from the developing world where standards are lower anyway is bonkers.
