Id take some issue with your examples there, poor Mrs Lawrence lost a son to violence, but I dont particularly see why she got a peerage from this, aside from being told to say things about British society which clamour well with those looking for excuses to do the country down. Kelly Holmes was a great athlete, lots of those in all colours but black people tend to do well in sport in general. She made quite a bit of money and got honoured, I dont necessarily think her achievements have improved the ordinary lives of people in the UK, same goes for Idris Elba, a very fine actor indeed who made a lot of money and seems to keep his head down and get on with things. I dont feel particularly enriched by what he does. It's the principle of the thing I suppose if I made a book about 100 UK whiteys that were great the list would be long and difficult to choose from with real effect on the people here. I suspect the listings in the book you refer to got a bit sparse after the mid 40s. Do we really need a book that puts colour first as the defining characteristic?

Corbyn being the opposition leader at the time certainly made the decision easier. Boris and co made the right noises, but sadly even with an 80 seat majority he couldnt follow through on the main reasons he got voted in.

@simonmilligan7497 Simon isnt openly hostile about Black people here I feel. It's the lies and misrepresentations he takes issues with. For example he often mentions the Mary Seacole saintlyness by those concerned about creating black heroes in UK society, as a downtrodden champion of Modern nursing and black hero. She wasnt a nurse and wasnt all that heroic, she wanted to make money opening a restaurant in the Crimea and happened to hand out some bandages now and then. He praises her business acumen and commercial bravery I suppose but beyond that she has been overblown and misrepresented.
