I have worked in one form or another in the NHS since 2001, in the early days we had half the staff, very poor machinery often on the verge of breakdown, kept limping along by fastidious maintenance and care, work load was high but morale and team working and leadership were also generally high.
Now, we have double the staff, much better machinery, workload is still high, but things have changed, there is no teamwork beyond a few good people, leadership in the form of "management" has tripled and is ineffective, clueless, box ticked, and utterly unresponsive, head so far in the sand they might as well be Australians.
The "strength" fights and whinges, between and within their groups, this is when they arent chatting, or on tiktok or working hard trying to look busy doing nothing of any clinical use for our patients. Neglectful, bad, poor or irresponsible behaviour is not dealt with effectively if at all.
I saw a statistic recently from an industry leader who said "75% of the work is being done by 10% of the staff". This couldnt be more true as it reflects in the NHS i work in now.
I am one white man, of 4, in a dept of 57. I could and have honestly cried in frustration at it all.
