Well this is the outcome of decades of pushing children to excel at any cost at younger and younger ages... so now they're mentally rebelling against the madness of being denied their childhood.

@voraciousreader3341 While I agree completely with everything you've said about the technology of the last couple of decades and parents using it as a babysitter, parents who are just as addicted themselves to their cell phones which is happening all across the world. Something they say is literally altering how our brains 'used' to function. Japan is still a very formal, regimented society with excessive expectations since WWII.... hard for the parents not to fall under that cultural influence and pass it on to their offspring thinking that pushing will help their future possibilities, unfortunately it has now backfired... while our western kids end up using drugs. Which is worse? I haven't a clue.
