I've always believed that suburbia in the states was manipulated into being by the auto industry and malls and was never created to facilitate the lives of the residents.... with that came the complete lack of 'Çommunity' in these suburban areas, no local cafe, coffee, ice cream, little mom and pop necessities shops or any common green spaces, which all of Europe enjoys.

PS: this led to the present growing malaise of Americans with no sense of roots ie; community, which brings with it depression and a sense of isolation from real people... a cell phone only gives a false sense of belonging, you don't. I lived in Italy for over 20 years, walked everywhere, went to the cafe every morning, made friends and eventually knew my whole town and they knew me, and yes you learn the local gossip, but also who is struggling or has physical issues and if they had no family near, were checked on by friends from the community... when would that happen in suburbia, you could be dead for weeks before anyone even knew? For the most part America has always been a grand experiment in herding people into becoming cash cows for the unscrupulous monopolists and why now we have so little given back to those who made the wealthy wealthy in the first place in the richest country on earth and why we are a manipulated into being neurotically separate and divided, that was The Plan. " United we stand, divided we fall" The powers that be made sure that we will stay unconnected, fearful and divided.
