The biggest contribution the US has made is the supply of 155mm artillery shells, HIMARS, GMLRS and ATACMS missiles, sidewinder missiles and the like from its stockpiles, plus military intelligence. The Europeans have very few equivalents for the equipment, and they have been tardy in ramping up their artillery ammunition production. However, once that has been accomplished (a task that takes 2-4 years to do from scratch), Europe is more than capable of taking the place of the US as the arms supplier to Ukraine. If the EU member states started this process back in 2022, we should see EU production of these items increase rapidly over the next two years. That will then just leave a gap in intelligence gathering, which could also be filled at some expense if EU member states are willing to pay the costs.
The biggest issue with the EU is that, like the US in the 1930s, it has been a sleeping giant that didn't want to be wakened. They, like Canada, wanted peace and prosperity, and became over-reliant on the US for protection. They have now discovered the folly of that stance.
