Let's see - 5 million Canadians live in the area you delineated, while 3.5 million Americans live in the area you show. Why, you ask. WATER SUPPLY!!! Montana basically has one big river to draw water from, the Missouri, and two smaller rivers, Yellowstone and Musselshell. Wyoming, and the Dakotas have the same issue. Alberta, on the other hand, has the Bow River (Calgary), the North Saskatchewan River (Edmonton) and the Peace River (Fort St. John and Dawson City), plus the Oldman River (Lethbridge) and Red Deer Rivers (Red Deer and Drumheller). Is it any wonder that Alberta can support a bigger population?
