Video evidence of several BMPs sitting in the river near Balakliiya shows that this was not an orderly retreat, it was a rout. The front in this area has collapsed completely. A fair number of prisoners were taken, including a Lt. Colonel. Video evidence also shows that the Ukrainians have almost reached Kupiansk and are in Pidvyosoke. This means the Russian forces sitting in Izyum are almost surrounded, except for a possible exit through Oksii. And if other information I have seen is correct, that exit is rapidly being closed and they are on the verge of being completely encircled.

You're a day behind. Video shows that Balakliia is under total Ukrainian control, as is Svchenkove, and they are nearly to Kupiansk. The Ukrainians are also in Pidvysoke, which is 20km northeast of Izyum, according to video evidence.

I'm always amazed that this channel never seems to give a balance report. It always follows the RUSSIAN line, which if you know anything about Russian information, is full of falsehoods and lies. Sorry, but this information is likely all bogus. Especially since the Russians in the Kherson region have been cut off from resupply for almost 2 weeks, and there are videos that were released today indicating there is small arms fire and combat occurring very close to, or within, Kherson. Sorry, but I think this is a pro-Russian propaganda channel.

@Vedioviswritingservice Might want to check "The Enforcer" youtube to see where the Ukrainians are right now, as confirmed by the video evidence. They are over 50miles (80 km) beyond where the front lines were, and are in the process of surrounding Izyum. Of course, because it's not the Russians doing this, it's not a major breakthrough.🤣

It's a perfect Mongolian feigned retreat. You feign retreat by turning around and heading away from the enemy at full speed while shedding your armor, bows, arrows, swords and even horses. No one will expect a trap.🤣

@tommiddlefinger6188 Ukraine is primarily an infantry army with mechanized forces. They are also fighting to conserve manpower, outflanking enemy positions and hitting supply lines. This takes time. However, once the they have weakened their opponents logistics and manpower enough and identified weak spots in the line, they attack. Ukraine is playing a cautious game like a lightweight fighter going up against a heavyweight, playing defense but landing telling blows when openings appear. They lack the mechanized mobile forces to exploit major breakthroughs in a spectacular fashion, but what they do very well is force the Russians into untenable situations where they have to retreat or be annihilated. Ukraine then clobbers the escape routes with artillery and small arms fire to inflict casualties and further low morale. It may not be Desert Storm, but it is very effective.

The Ukrainians are still pushing forward towards Kherson, and the Russians are taking losses. Given they are stuck on the north side of the Dnieper River with no means of receiving large equipment, replacement troops and massive amounts of supplies, they are effectively in a pocket. Like the German 6th Army at Stalingrad. And like that army, they are likely going to be crushed. It will just take time, like it did for the Red Army (Nov. 1942-Feb. 1943).

@sapphosplace They didn't even manage to surround them at Sievierodonetsk. Perhaps a couple of companies that were late in withdrawing, but the Ukrainians withdrew in good order. The Russian retreat from Balakliiya is a rout.

I disagree. The Ukrainians appear to have the immediate objective of encircling and eliminating the Russian forces at Izyum. This will remove 10-25,000 troops from the roster of the Russian Army. This will free up all the Ukrainian troops here for further offensive actions.

@Commanderstevo So is the fact that Russia is racing to send reinforcements to the area. Russia was caught completely flat-footed. By the way, the guy you are responding to is either a Russian troll or is rabidly pro-Russian. I tried reasoning with him yesterday, and was only met with verbal abuse.

@Commanderstevo Well, you might want to be placing your fingers under the edge of that table. One image I saw earlier today was of a sign reading "Severodonetsk Raion [District]. This means that whoever took that photo was about 20km from Severodonetsk, possibly close to Kraminna. If they were with the Ukrainian forces, they might have been heading towards the city itself. We shall see tomorrow.

Depending on the Ukrainian troop strength, logistics and speed of advance, I might expect them to reach Luhansk in the next couple of days. As far as I can tell, Russia has nothing to stop them. They could also take Donetsk from the rear. Guess we will have to see if the Russians stand or disintegrate.

@trevorcrook5753 Russia doesn't dare mobilize for two reasons: 1) the bulk of the reservists are members of the FSB, police and security forces. This means Putin sends all the people who are suppressing the Russian people to the front line. Oops. 2) if they declare war, it automatically demonstrates that the government has been lying all this time. Oops. Basically, Putin and his cadre have trapped themselves with their own lies and deceit.

@-Zevin- I hate to break the news to you, but those are the tactics the Ukrainians have been using since February when they stopped the drive on Kyiv. Attacking Russian logistics with HIMARS and long-rage artillery is how Ukraine finally halted the advance in the Donbass. And the Russians still haven't figured out how to defeat it.

The Russian artillery is currently being overrun by the Ukrainians. The Ukrainians have covered around 80km in 3 days!

I know. From what I can tell Russia made just about every mistake that you can when conducting military operations. If there was a right way to do something and a wrong way to do it, they seemed to invariably pick the latter.

Of course one of the biggest questions is how seriously depleted all these BTGs are, and their morale. Also, can Ukraine somehow take advantage of the over-extended Russian lines in Sectors 1, 6 and 7.

The Kherson offensive will take time, because the Russians have 20-30,000 troops there, many of them their best soldiers. They have also had a month or more to build defenses in depth. The Kherson offensive is still happening, but it will take time for Russia to burn through its ammo stocks. Meanwhile, Ukraine has executed a blitzkrieg-style attack in the north, and has completely broken through the Russian front lines on a 35km front. The Russians don't seem to have any reserves to stop them. So yes, Ukraine is winning. Think of WW2 and what happened in the Pacific in 1942 - Japan took a lot of territory, but lost at Midway, then New Guinea, then at Guadalcanal. And we know who won that campaign.

What you are saying makes as much sense as many of the Japanese battle plans of WW2, which basically ran, "The enemy will do this because we want them to". The Ukrainians are now on the outskirts of Kupyansk, have liberated Senkove and Pidvysoke (video evidence supports all three of these towns being liberated or on the verge of liberation), and are reported to be in Oskil. If the last is true, then the Russian forces at Izyum are trapped. The reason for this is simple, Putin, a person with absolutely no military background, is running the war. He is so focused on politics that he has ignored military precepts and advice. Ukraine has been wearing down the Russians while quietly building up their own forces, feeding just enough units into the line to keep their front from collapsing. They built up a large, well trained force and have been waiting for an opportunity to use it. Ukraine has been attacking in Kherson to pull in as many Russian troops as possible, all the while announcing they will attack here. It is a trap, much like that perpetrated by the Russians at Stalingrad. Similarly with Donetsk, the Ukrainians are engaging in a protracted struggle to draw in as many Russian troops as possible to fight a war of attrition to degrade the Russian forces. Russia then committed the last of its major reserves to the Donetsk Region and near Kherson, the former for their offensive there, the latter to try and hold the land north of the Dneiper. This is the chance Ukraine was waiting for, and they attacked. The result of Ukrainian military competence and Russian incompetence can be seen by all in this new offensive.

@Commanderstevo I know. It appears they have liberated Vovchansk in the north, which gives them a solid river line for defense against attacks originating from Belgorod. May also have liberated Velykyi Burluk, which gives them a good communications link north-south. Be interested to see if these are confirmed with video tomorrow, and what else the Ukrainians have liberated.

Actually, "front line stabilized" means the Ukrainians are taking a day or two to rest, refit and reorganize their forces before advancing again.

@AgentDoubleOSeven77 They not only lacked logistics, but their logistical system is tied too closely to railways and putting things in large warehouses. They lacked the motorized transport to make them more flexible with their logistics, and prevented them dispersing their supplies into smaller, more difficult to find, stockpiles.

@apostlejoshuatrent7180 I think you forgot to mention that Ukraine has shown better tactical saavy at the small unit level, whereas the Russians have relied almost solely on artillery barrages to move forward. If Ukraine can apply their tactics to the offensive, they should win this.

@bak2back They would be terrorists if this was a peacetime situation and they were attacking unarmed civilians. This is a war and they are attacking armed military personnel, so they are guerillas or partisans. Terrorists are essentially cowards striking defenseless people who have nothing to do with whatever "cause" the terrorists are fighting for. Partisans strike enemy units in the midst of conflict, putting their lives on the line like the frontline soldiers do. Please get your definitions right, because there is a MAJOR difference between the two groups.

@bak2back Hate to say it, but they have evidence that the Russians have shelled their own troops on previous occasions. Russia is also known for lying and creating false flag events. I'm afraid they haven't changed since the Communists took over in 1917.

@bak2back Got a couple of better ones. "We are withdrawing from Snake Island as a goodwill gesture". Or "The attack on Kyiv was a feint, we never intended to take it in the first place". Perhaps I should add another one that Putin actually said out loud, but can be seen from what his subordinates have said, "We have no more territorial demands".

The Ukrainians seem to be trying to tie the Russians down. They have indicated periodically they may be launching an offensive in mid-June to July. Russia is so focused on Donbass and committing all their forces there that they are weakening other sections of the line. They could be setting themselves up for a fall.
