  1. There will be cuts, as appropriate. Cuts in unnecessary spending, cuts on illegals, cuts on dead people, cuts on people abusing the system, etc. If you're legal and eligible, you won't see a decrease in your benefits. If you do, then you should certainly talk to your state rep. The whole point is to cut overall spending so that the eligible citizens get what they need.

  4. There needs to be serious cuts to all government spending, but it does need to be judicious so that our (legal and living) citizens in need aren't affected. If we do nothing, SS and other benefits won't be around in 5-10 years. There is too much waste and abuse in every sector, including Medicare/caid. Checks for medical supplies are being sent to empty offices. Employees aren't always doing their best, and they need fired/replaced. Federal employees shouldn't expect to keep their job just because they assume it's secure. They should be treated like a private-sector employee, with regular performance reviews. I personally think people shouldn't be living off government benefits for decades (unless you're legit disabled or very old and are in retirement that long). It's a common thing for people to go into the system for years, when in reality they are capable of working. It seems we've recently lost some work ethics in this country. We've also lost job opportunities due to companies leaving the country to operate elsewhere. That is currently being addressed with reciprocal tariffs, which will entice businesses to open up here and provide employment for US citizens. They definitely shouldn't cap benefit amounts for medical treatments for citizens who are truly in need, simply because the costs are so high. Maybe they should just actually do something about the medical-industrial complex. 🙄

  5. ​ @JD-tn5tb  Thank you for the compliment. I appreciate that. So, do private employees enjoy all the privileges and protections you think fed employees deserve? Does it matter if they have kids at home, if they're not doing their job well or their job no longer exists in the private company? For context, I compare our government to companies because--like them--we also have revenue and debt. The difference is that we Americans are the actual employer, since it's our tax money that upholds the institute at this point. That being said, are private companies held to the standards you propose? Should they also continue to employ excess people to the detriment of their companies? When they are going bankrupt and trying to save themselves, don't you think the probationary employees should be the first to go rather than the people with seniority? Shouldn't they cut departments and positions that are no longer relevant? Shouldn't they get rid of wasteful spending within the remaining departments? Do you realize that Clinton and Obama both made moves to cut government waste? Clinton reduced the federal workforce by the tens of thousands. Were you unhappy about it back then? Was he being mean to Americans because of his actions? How is it "bullying and scare tactics" to make sure that people are alive and present at their job, and are performing well? How is bullying to get rid of departments and grants that don't serve the greater good of our nation? How is it bullying to reduce government waste, abuse, and fraud? This is our money they're spending. Don't you think it should be spent responsibly? Almost 75% of Americans are happy with DOGE's efforts thus far, so I think it's fair to say that they're doing a pretty good job. Nobody wants to disrupt the lives of people, but this is realistically what happens when an establishment is 36 trillion dollars in debt and you're trying to avoid bankruptcy. I do hope that the people who lost their job will find good employment in the private sector (or another gov agency if they're a competent employee).

  6. @ This is straight from the Harvard Harris poll: [67% of voters say the current level of U.S. federal government debt is unsustainable. 83% of voters favor reducing government expenditures over increasing taxes, and 77% say a full examination of all government expenditures is necessary. 70% of voters say government expenditures are filled with waste, fraud, and inefficiency (Democrats: 58%; Republicans: 78%; Independents: 75%), and 69% support the goal of cutting $1 trillion of government expenditures. 60% of voters think DOGE is helping make major cuts in government expenditures.] The chainsaw was a gift from another president who also cut government waste. It was given during an aired conference. No big deal, IMO. Nobody is trying to hurt people on an individual basis. Most of them are being given several months of severance pay.

  7.  @JD-tn5tb  The Harvard Harris poll is considered one of the most respected and accurate, from what I understand. That snippet came from their February report. Why would newer employees get several months severance? Look, we are definitely going to just have to disagree. I don't want anyone to suffer, but spending has to be cut. The number of jobs cut in compared to the total workforce is a drop in the bucket. You admit that the only problem you have with cutting waste is the way it's being done (mostly you just don't like Trump, it seems), since you defended Clinton for also reducing federal jobs. I may not agree with everything DOGE is doing, but I think they are doing a better job than anyone else who has been in charge of government oversight for the last couple decades.
