  2. I think you're right. It does build character and resilience. I've worked hard at making my kid's life easier than mine was but I realize that I'm the way I am because of my childhood. I make sure to at least give my son a run-down on how easy he has it. I tell him how hard life can be by relaying my own stories. I don't want him to necessarily experience it but want him to know of it so it keeps him in check. He's far from spoiled and will usually eat anything I cook for him, even if it's just an egg sandwich. And actually, he loves the simple foods we have. He knows there is pleasure in them if they are made with love (and good seasoning--lol).
