As to cables, once again - the gun would have to recieve a direct hit, or some lucky shrapnel would have to hit the right place. 2-3. The magazine can be as big as you make it, you can easily set up such gun with thousands of rounds if you have enough time and resources. 4. It's not like there is just this one gun in the area, is it? Going around could prove more costly due to terrain disadvantages and actions of the opposing force.

  12. 1. Obviously the gun stopped working in the end for some reason, most probably it was out of power or ammo. Dust doesn't matter much to such systems and as long as the gun is not hit directly, bombing doesn't matter much either. 2. Nobody, it is belt-fed from a big magazine. 3. Depending on the caliber, mild to heavy. 4. That's easier said than done.
