@LSinclair you would be surprised then how much your body absorbs through oral mucosa. There are medications which are absorbed better by NOT swallowing it, leaving it in your mouth

If it’s anything to you, this “protocol” (with certain adaptations) is accepted in dentistry circles and my personal dentist has been saying for years what i am now seeing internet people advocating for. I’ve had dentists who did not seem to encourage this… they’re pmuch depriving you of accepted wisdom to make money off poor dental health.

Listerine contains xylitol. Get alcohol free if you can. Alcohol is acidic for your teeth AND mouth drying. Oils are not necessarily a good thing either. Take for instance coconut oil. It’s might be rumoured to be “antibacterial”, i can guarantee that within an hour the bacteria in your mouth will use the oil to LIVE IN and be more difficult than ever to remove. /someone who knows

❤ I would personally begin trying to weigh the benefits of what is going in to the mouth vs the negatives of ingesting too much of it. Reduce the portion size of anything? … xylitol is wonderful because it stimulates salivation which helps to promote tooth health (with a healthy diet). I would (in 1/2 size amounts) focus on making use of fluoride water and xylitol products WITH A CAVEAT: xylitol can cause very painful bowel dysfunction in certain individuals, the less is more rationale is wise: if there is any discomfort, reconsider xylitol use completely, use erethryrol or allitol

@Julie-rz4eh wow this is a relief! I was trying to chew gum for at least a half hour afterward, which resulted in me suffering devastating xylitol effects in my bowels (i have ibs, xylitol is contra- for ibs sufferers— and no, i was not swallowing air or gum or saliva) 30 min exposure vs 5— this could be the change i need. Then again, xylitol mouthwash 💀 my guts and that’s a 30 second rinse
