The devestation was brought about by the October 7th massacre and then because Hamas had tunnelled beneath pretty much all the infrastructure. If you look at the missile sites you'll see rows of collapsed buildings that wouldn't have been touched if they had proper foundations. It is plain as day.

@miapax1962 you realise it was controlled by Egypt up until the 6 Day War? And there is still a border crossing into Egypt that the Egyptians control but refuse to let Gazans into the country.
