My sister did that to her F450 SD after a 16 hour day, that was a pricey trip to the dealer!

There's a big chemical difference in the emissions and they're impact on air particles. Untreated soot from a diesel sits basically at ground level affecting breathability, whereas gasoline exhaust moves much higher into the atmosphere. They're both bad, but for different reasons. Burning off what's captured results in safer particulate than if it was just sent straight out the exhaust untreated.

@CedroCron It's not the same exhaust product, for starters. And as I and many others have pointed out, this process either happens normally if the vehicle is driven properly or as maintenance with a mechanic. The outcome is identical. If you aren't a fan, just say you don't like vehicles that burn fuel because it happens with gasoline vehicles as well, just fouls different components.

No, not even a little. This process is only needed when the truck isn't being driven the way trucks were intended to be. If the owner actually put that thing under load on a semi regular basis it wouldn't be having this issue. Proper maintenance is either using it like a truck, or having it done by a shop. Either way, that fuel is going to be spent.

Gasoline engines too, or you get varnished injectors. And the methods to fix that are basically what everyone calls snake oil 😂
