  1. Trump and the US is legitimately worried about the growing power and technology China. But a trade war is the riskiest way to slow down the growth of China’s power. You win a battle of economies in the long run by bringing up the level of education in the entire population, you work on reducing inequality so people don’t despair, you bring universal health care to people so they do not despair if a family member becomes sick and work on not degrading the environment. If you do all these things there emerges an optimism and uplifting of people’s outlook. China and its immediate neighbours have this. Japan not so much as China hates them, but japan is so proud of its history it will not formally apologize for ww2. However they have managed to grow per capita gdp even if overall gdp is dropping with the population. So by doing the stuff I said they don’t lose. Trump is doing the exact opposite of the items that I listed. This is why the US will lose, although he may not be president long enough to see the fruits of his folly. Having said that he is not the author of many of the US problems but will make them worse and definitely not solve them. By the way Europe especially Germany and to some degree France are doing what I said. It should be noted that they are the strongest economies in the EU
