  1. answer is simple. If your country has a border, you have some sort of protection. Along China's borders, there is no conflict....apart from India. So where would you station your military ? Along the borders which conflict may happen. Just like why India has over 500,000 troops in Kashmir ? Because Kashmir isn't a stable state. Just like India has numerous troops along the Pakistan border...because conflict occasional happen there.
