They roamed the earth with dinosaurs but they are still thriving, and their bodies havn't changed much within tens of millions of years, which means little need to evolve to adapt to environmental changes.   16. More like Crocodiles' lake since they've been around far longer than hippos. The two species must have learned to coexist since then. And if you think about it there's actually a benefit having crocodiles around in the river because this keeps most of the animals from entering the river.
