  1. I think I get what you're saying, and it lines up with an experience I had years ago. Way back in university days I spent a fair amount of time trying to understand what the universe "really" looked like according to general relativity. I came to a fuzzy sort of understanding through analogy that it would be like a big sculpture in 4D with all the world lines embedded within it. I excitedly told the Professor about this, and asked him if it made sense. But he didn't care what it "looked" like, to him that was a pointless question. I never understood his reaction until now. I thought the equations he was teaching us were a way to describe how general relativity worked, but for him the equations were general relativity, just like you said that math is real because it describes our observations.
