Thanks for this video! Intelligence is such a fascinating subject, especially in animals. There doesn't seem to be any clear boundary between them and us, just a shading of attributes we all share to one degree or another. Some animals are all about self control, like squirrels, but they'll just take everything and store it for later. The ability to pass up a treat now to get a better treat later seems to indicate the Eurasian jays have some concept of the "future." The squirrel is probably just following instinct when it stores nuts instead of eating them right away, it's not consciously preparing for winter. But when the jays pass up an immediate opportunity they must have some rudimentary conception that there will be a period of time after now when the mealworm appears. So like us, they understand the passage of time, at least to a small degree.
