Thanks for the update! I guess it isn't really surprising that Evergrande made the payment, since it's later payments that could be a problem for them after the cash reserves run out. It certainly isn't a good sign that they can't even sell off their headquarters building. Switching from property development to green energy as a source of economic growth is certainly a good idea! 1.2 trillion dollars of investment every year for 38 years is a sum that so big I can't even picture it. Surely that could take over as the main engine for China's economic growth, if the industry is profitable. But then again, building solar farms and wind turbines that are actually needed has got to be better long term than building ghost cities in the desert.

I guess there is a problem with green energy, though. One reason property development has been so popular with ordinary Chinese people is it gives them a theoretical way to get ahead and make something from their savings. You can't do that with a wind turbine. Ordinary Chinese people may not even have a way to invest in green energy, and if they can get in they're probably not going to be satisfied with the small profit margins that come from stable industrial investment.
