  2. It's a positive feedback cycle than cannot last forever. Eventually something is going to break and the current system will collapse. China uses far more coal than India, but India will be hurt much deeper and much more quickly when the heat increases to unbearable levels.

  3. "I get it. You think the word "retreat" implies defeat." I'm sorry, but that's exactly how I feel about this. It sounds like giving the world implicit permission to burn fossil fuel like crazy and just trying to manage the aftermath. Picking winners and losers in the future. But then I don't live in Fiji or Bangladesh. Managed retreat is certainly a wise strategy for people who live in the places that climate change will effect most adversely and quickly.

  6. They have to. We're not reducing emissions anywhere near fast enough, or at all in many places. If we want to avoid going over some irreversible climate tipping points we're going to need a massive carbon capture industry and maybe even geoengineering. The problem could have been solved with emission reductions alone if we'd started thirty years ago, but we didn't.

  7. As time goes by and the climate crisis becomes more desperate, there needs to be a massive injection of investment and activity in this sector.
