  1. "I get it. You think the word "retreat" implies defeat." I'm sorry, but that's exactly how I feel about this. It sounds like giving the world implicit permission to burn fossil fuel like crazy and just trying to manage the aftermath. Picking winners and losers in the future. But then I don't live in Fiji or Bangladesh. Managed retreat is certainly a wise strategy for people who live in the places that climate change will effect most adversely and quickly.
