Obviously it would be foolish to reopen the economy too soon, but I really hope it happens as soon as it can be safely done. The economic and social effects of this shutdown are devastating and only getting worse as it goes on. I really don't think the US economy (or any other) can survive being shut down like this for the rest of the year. We're flirting with a second great depression here. If the pro-open position was championed by someone other than Donald Trump it would be possible to have a more rational and complete public debate about tradeoffs and necessary precautions - but because he's the public face of the pro-open side it loses legitimacy and ends up looking like something that would only be done to benefit him.
