Lee got the statue because southerners wanted to change Lee's narrative from "Civil War loser" to "martyr of the Lost Cause," like William Wallace or all those Christians who got eaten by Lions in ancient Rome. As for Grant... If Grant hadn't become President there might be heroic statues of him. But the perceived mediocrity of his Presidency (later reevaluated positively by historians, but perceived poorly by Americans at the time) kind of zeroed out the gratitude people felt towards him for winning the war.
