  1. Wasn't slavery one of the main reasons for the Electoral College? All this stuff interconnects and feeds off itself throughout history. A system that was designed to give slave holding states electoral votes (by counting slaves as part of the state population but not actually letting them vote directly) gives rural, Republican-leaning states outsize influence today. And without the electoral college Trump would never have been elected President.
