Another great video, Disparu. Thanks for making it! There's lots of complicated issues here, and in general I like your take on things. Going along with what you said in the video, I think there's a clash happening now between different groups who all feel like they have some degree of ownership of these massively popular epics. On one end there's George RR Martin, who absolutely does own his own stories, wondering why so many fans have turned on the cultural properties they once loved. Then there's the entertainment companies both in and out of Hollywood who feel they own properties because they bought the rights. For them changing the properties is a given, because otherwise it won't feel like they own them. Then there's the fans, who have a more difficult to define sense of ownership, mostly based on all the time they've spent reading and watching the stories. An author (or in film an auteur like George Lucas) certainly has the right to define their own stories. But when they pass away or sell off their rights the question of ownership becomes murkier. Does Amazon really have the right to change the lore of LoTR just because they spent so much money buying it? Fans are starting to say "No" in a definitive way. It's still difficult to criticize these sorts of things without being labelled as an "ist" of some form, but the way these projects are being rejected by mass audiences seems to indicate that we're becoming more settled on this issue as a culture.
