  1. I was just thinking this is the kind of thing you'd see as a fake news clip in the opening credits of an asteroid or alien invasion movie: "The Arecibo Telescope was damaged today..." Next up is unexplained power failures in major cities.

  2. This is a really unfortunate development. I hope they can repair Arecibo as soon as possible. The reflector dish should be easy enough to fix, since it's simple in structure and right on the ground. But the Gregorian Dome and its catwalk might be quite a bit more challenging. Hopefully the Dome wasn't damaged too badly.
