It would be wonderful to repair Arecibo, but it appears to have reached the state where all the cables would need to be replaced, and if I understand correctly that's almost as hard as rebuilding it completely. It's unclear to me why the Aricebo telescope has so little domestic American support, since it's a literally one-of-a-kind instrument with an incredibly distinguished history of accomplishment - and as you point out in the video, there's no similar replacement available elsewhere. So I really hope someone builds a replacement dish. It could be the US, or a coalition of different countries, whatever, just so long as science gets that capability back as soon as possible.
