This is it exactly, although I wouldn't say unforgivable. It's just regrettable more than anything.

  2. It's neat that somebody found the lander - and doing it using publicly available NASA data just shows how silly it is to keep these things secret. ISRO accomplished something really cool with their orbiter, keeping the fate of the lander secret just distracts attention from that. If ISRO was more transparent about their accomplishments and failures, and let people look at their data (like NASA does) they'd have far more support from everyone.
