  1. I don't think they'd want to create an actual landing surface out of aluminum oxide. The idea is probably just to glue the regolith together so it doesn't explode outwards under the lander. Sort of a rough and ready landing pad that's made of glued together rocks and dust.

  2. Masten seems like a cool company. Good luck to 'em. It'll be great if they do land on the Moon in a little less than three years from now. Love that Flight Alumina Spray Technique! I remember a similar idea in Stanisław Lem's 1964 science fiction novel "The Invincible." Except in his book the rocket was nuclear powered and it sprayed out some crazy sci fi substance to harden the molten crater before it landed, not good old aluminum.
